The Beast knew he should be happy with his life.
“I was transformed into a terrifying creature by a witch, but I have a lot to be grateful for!” he told himself as he looked into his magic mirror one morning.
The mirror agreed. “Yes, you do! Look at this gorgeous mansion! Delicious meals appear on the dining table by magic, and in your garden, fruit and flowers grow all year round...”
The place where the Beast felt happiest was in his library. There were shelves upon shelves of books, from atlases and storybooks to encyclopedias filled with fascinating facts. When he sat by the fire and lost himself in a tale, he felt a little less lonely.
But one grey morning, the Beast felt sad and restless. He couldn’t concentrate on his stories.
“I don’t know what it is!” he said to the mirror on the wall. “Even my books don’t bring me joy!”
The mirror spoke to him. “Perhaps you feel a bit down because you are all alone. Instead of keeping your stories in this dusty library, you should share them with others! This mansion needs some life in it, if you ask me!”
“But who would want to read with me?” the Beast wondered. He had no friends, and most people were afraid of him.
Taking the mirror’s advice, he sent his mice servants out into the forest with a message: their master was holding a special event in his library, and everyone was invited!
The news spread quickly. By that evening, animals of all kinds had gathered outside the mansion’s doors. The Beast welcomed them all in. The deer, the beavers, the weasels and even a bear wiped their feet on the doormat and thanked him for the invitation. The seven dwarfs had come all the way from another fairy tale, and they brought biscuits!
The guests were taken to the library, where chairs and sofas were arranged by the fireplace.
“This place is truly fabulous!” a little hedgehog gasped.
Everyone took a seat and snuggled up. Then, the Beast opened his favourite book and began to read in a deep, warm voice.
His new friends chuckled or gasped at all the right places. The Beast felt something he had never experienced before: a warm and happy feeling deep inside.
When he finished, he saw that all his new friends had drifted off to sleep.
The Beast smiled into the mirror. “You’re right. Stories are better when you share them!”

(Linking / Sensory Verbs + Adjectives)
"...where the Beast felt happiest was in his library."
"...he felt a little less lonely."
"...the Beast felt sad and restless."
"...Perhaps you feel a bit down..."
- {Subject} + {Linking Verb (feel / look / sound )} + {Adjective}
After walking for miles, they felt completely exhausted.
Her voice sounded calm despite the stressful situation.
(Past Perfect Tense)
"...animals of all kinds had gathered outside the mansion’s doors."
"The seven dwarfs had come all the way from another fairy tale..."
"...something he had never experienced before..."
"...his new friends had drifted off to sleep."
- {Subject} + {had} + {Past Participle (V3)}
By the time the movie began, all the guests had arrived.
He realized he had forgotten his keys at home.
